Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

Today is one of those days where I just want to be lounging around the house in my pajamas doing nothing and watching TV.  It is cold and rainy outside, and the last thing any woman wants to do on a day like today is get dressed up.

So what do you wear on cold days when the only thing that sounds comforting is your favorite sweat pants and a hot cup of coffee?

You can wear sweats!! YEAH!

Now - let's make sure we set some ground rules here.

1.  If you are over the age of 18, please for the love of all that is holy, do NOT wear words across your rear end.  I don't care if you have a bootie like a rock star, NO words, brand names, appliques, nothing.  Got it?

2.  Break up the sweatsuit.  Juicy Couture made the velour jumpsuit stylish and I'm okay with wearing it head to toe.  But it is okay to break it up from time to time by wearing the pieces by themselves.  Try a hooded sweatshirt with a printed tee and a pair of jeans like the outfit below.

3.  No banded bottom sweat pants.  Look for open bottom legs that look similar to wide leg pants or even regular pants for a comfortable yet causal look.

4.  If you wear leggings, be sure to wear a top that is long enough to cover the tooshy.   Long sweaters, sweatshirts, or t-shirts are great options to wear with leggings.  Be sure to fine one that defines the waistline so you don't look sloppy.

Have a great weekend in your sweats!!

Yellow Fever

One of my favorite colors this season is yellow.  It can be a tricky color for most complexions and often works best as a companion to other colors.  However, yellow is a warm color and symbolizes happiness and joy.  What better way to add a little sunshine to your wardrobe when the days are shorter and the temperatures are colder.

Here are a few tips on how to mix yellow into your wardrobe.

1.  Wear yellow as an exciting contrast with reds or other richer colors.  Blue is also a great contrast.  Try a denim or chambray shirt.

2.  Pair yellow with classic tweeds and add in a touch of black.  This is an old school outfit with a punch of color.

3 & 4.  Use yellow as a way to perk up basic neutrals like taupe, grey, or other subdued color palettes.  You can also wear yellow in accessories such as the printed scarf, boot, and bracelet below.

Yes - it is okay to wear brown and grey together.

5. Try an unexpected color combination like hot pink and yellow.  Break it up with a basic jacket like the denim one pictured below.  While the colors below seem very "summery" - it is actually a perfect way to bring bright colors into your wardrobe for winter.  Adding in an animal print belt gives the outfit a little texture while simmering the colors down a bit.
