"The List" Part 1: The New Neutral

One of my favorite retailers who also happens to be out of my price range, is Neiman Marcus. Each season they educate the fashionistas of the world with their "LIST' of top trends.  Last year I blogged about each one of them here.

This year, I am going to post one trend at a time so it doesn't take me six months to get this incredibly vital information to you.

Trend # 1 - The New Neutral: YELLOW

So this surprises me a little.  I figured that the fashion gods would be moving on from this color since it has been out there for awhile now.  I do love yellow and did a post about the color a few months ago.

But as a leader and an advisor to all things trend appropriate, I must obey the laws of fashion and give you my affordable picks for yellow colored clothing and accessories (again).

Spring Trend Alert - Neon Brights

One of the hot trends for Spring 2012 are neon hues.

Neon colors sort of take me down memory lane with a few celebrity icons from the 80's.

Ahhh - You put the "boom boom" into my heart.  Check out those neon brights!

Who could forget the queen of the 80's and her crazy color combinations.

When wearing neon colors, you don't have to look like you stepped out of 1986.  There is a way to pull them off in a classy and sophisticated way.  Have fun with brights, but remember to wear once piece and make it the statement of your outfit by balancing it with softer or basic colors.

This is what NOT to wear and should only be worn to a costume party.

If you are interested in testing the trend, here are a few pieces currently out in stores or online for your viewing or purchasing pleasure.

So what does a "neon" appropriate outfit look like?

A great way to mix your brights if you are more daring

What a fun color combo and a show stopper!

3. Be Bold
Who says you only have to wear black and brown accessories?  Find a shoe or handbag in a bright color to jazz up your basic blue jeans.  Metallics are great alternatives to neutrals too!

4. Just Layer
Mix colors by layering your tops and tees.  You can mix prints and stripes or layer shirts under sweaters for a "peek-a-boo" type feel.

Here is to a New Year and a New YOU!  Hope you can add the wow back into your wardrobe.
